Arno Schuitemaker creates works one has to experience. Through a strong integration of ongoing, evolving movement with electronic music and impressive lighting designs, his interdisciplinary performances immerse the audience, each in their unique way. Rooted in the pages of his diary, they stretch and alter the way we perceive time and space and transform into embodied meditations on life, reflecting the depths of our existence. His performances have been presented at renowned venues and contemporary performing arts festivals in over 20 countries.
Schuitemaker’s work progresses consciously and continuously from project to project. Each creation builds on the previous and leads to the next. In October 2019, The Way You Sound Tonight was bestowed with the award of most impressive dance production in The Netherlands. The performance premiered at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam and according to Cultuurpers it was "one of the highlights of the festival".
Other creations include EXIT (2009), TIDE (2011), The Fifteen Project | DUET (2012), I is an Other (2014), Together_till the end (2015), WHILE WE STRIVE (2015), I will wait for you (2016) and If You Could See Me Now (2017).
In Theatermaker, both The Way You Sound Tonight and I will wait for you were selected in the lists of critics as the season’s best performances. tanz magazine selected Arno as one of the most promising artists in their yearbook 2017 and by Dance Europe he was mentioned as being “one of the leading makers in The Netherlands.” He is a winner of the Dioraphte Encouragement Award and the 2nd jury prize at [re]connaissance.
